A Day Out with the Kids!

Normally I would take a few days' leave during each year's June and December school holiday period to bring the kids out. But I was really busy during the recent month of June with work and matters at home. Rachel asked me during the June holiday period why is it that she does not have school holidays like Brandon kor kor. I replied that because kor kor and her go to different schools. The fact is that Rachel goes to a childcare centre and the centre operates 5.5 days a week, 270 days a year (minus Sat afternoon, Sun, 11 days of Singapore public holidays and 5 days for teachers' training) without school holidays.

So I promised her that I will take a day off in July to bring her and mei mei out. Here's what I did on a day trip out with the kids. Our first destination was to The Animal Resort. It was the first time the children came so close with the animals. Both were so afraid that they don't even dare to take pictures with them. I hope to provide them with more opportunities like this to get close to nature and not grow up as urban kids.

After visit to the animal resort, we went for lunch at Swensen's as Jie Jie has been pestering me to use the ice-cream voucher which her school gave out to the children.

After lunch, we proceeded to The Farmart. It was supposed to be an interesting place (according to what I read on its website) featuring a variety of farms such as Bee farm, Koi farm, Lotus farm, Quail farm, Orchid farm, ornamental fish farm, live lobsters, crabs, DIY water fountains etc. At Farmart Centre, there is also sale of aquatic plants, farm essentials and exotic meats like crocodile, quail, ostrich, venison and bullfrog. Children can interact with animals at the animal corner which include goats, frogs, tortoises, fishes and other small animals. However, to our disappointment, most of the shops were closed and we did not get to do anything there. I guessed because today was a weekday (even though the website said it is opened everyday).

Next, we went to Singapore Omni Theatre to catch a IMAX movie, Sea Monsters.
After the movie, the children played around with some science exhibits.
See how heavy (or light) the children are. Shannon weighs 11.39kg on Planet Earth and 1.93kg on the Moon.
Rachel weighs 20.54kg on Planet Earth, 3.49kg on the Moon, 7.69kg on Planet Mars, 23.79kg on Planet Neptune and 51.79kg on Planet Jupiter.
